THE AFRICAN DAISY

Also known as the Osteospermum, the scientific name is derived from the Greek word osteon (bone) and Latin word spermum (seed). A super attractive flower for bees and butterflies, the Cape Lily is known to be a perrenial shrub with a constant annual bloom at the same time each year from April to August. A really beautiful flower, nature at its best.

LEOPARD VS. HYENA VS. LION

For all the music, art or fashion and other human creations we can post, nature at its best always has the edge. There’s something so fascinating about the fact that shit like this happens every day somewhere in the world whether we see it or not. Did you know leopards can climb trees? Did you know lions can climb trees? Ok, maybe you did. But you didn’t, and neither did I. A chance to watch something we don’t usually get the chance to: a crucial struggle between three predators. Enjoy.

OCEAN LIFE UP CLOSE: KUROSHIO SEA

As the second largest tank in the world, Kuroshiro Sea is one of the premier destinations to experience life in the open ocean. Holding 1,981,280 gallons of water, the tank holds 78 species of fish and four whale sharks. It’s a trip though, the ocean was here before we got here, and it’ll be here long after we leave. Another world that is so foreign to us. Thanks to Kuroshiro for bringing us a bit closer.

BABOONS GO BAD ON TOURISTS

Ok, this shit is just too funny. Apparently the baboons at the Knowsley Safari Park in Prescot, England have developed a habit of attacking visitors’ cars and dismantling their luggage containers. The baboons, who have supposedly “been issued Anti Social Baboon Orders”, attack in large gangs, a phenomenon that we are lucky enough to see caught on tape below. Couldn’t make this stuff up if I wanted to. Much appreciated Nicholas.

NICOLAS EVARISTE’S DARK ZOO SERIES

I think we’re just scratching the surface of where we’re going artistically in the world. Amazing works pop up each day, people harnessing their talents to create lasting images. The work of Nicolas Evariste is no different. A remarkable photographer, his excellence is achieved through his passions, “I am passionate about everything related to the picture, a graphic designer by trade, I am also fanatical about painting, cinema, or literature. I like the image in all its forms!” Nicolas Evariste. wet dot net.

HERMIT CRABS AT A GLANCE

As a land or water dwelling crustacean, the hermit crab is one of natures most adaptable animals. The soft inner abdomen of the hermit crab is their most vulnerable area, and in defense seek out empty sea shells for protection. To further camouflage themselves, hermit crabs sometimes carry other organisms like anemones along as well, further disguising them from predators. Interestingly enough, when a hermit crab changes shells, often the anemone will also transfer to the new shell and continue along with the crab. The lifespan of a hermit crab is also impressive with some species living up to 32 years. I wonder if the female crabs choose up on the dude crabs with the flyest shells.

THE POSTMAN BUTTERFLY

The Postman Butterfly also known as Heliconius melpomene lives in the jungles of Central America. In its larval state as a spiny caterpillar, it is a voracious eater with a preference for the passionflower vine. The adult butterfly feeds on this vine’s protein-rich pollen as well as nectar, and the added protein gives it a longer lifespan than most butterflies, usually from six to nine months.

PHOTOGRAPHY OF THE WORLD

An indigenous woman holds her child while trying to resist the advance of Amazonas state policemen who were expelling the woman and some 200 other members of the Landless Movement from a privately-owned tract of land on the outskirts of Manaus, in the heart of the Brazilian Amazon March 11, 2008. The landless peasants tried in vain to resist the eviction with bows and arrows against police using tear gas and trained dogs, and were evicted from the land.

30 HORNETS V.S 30,000 BEES

An incredible natural phenomenon. It seems as though the hornets may have adopted a Hobbesian worldview, engulfed in a natural and constant state of war. This video is actually amazing, an incredible sight caught on camera.
