BAT FOR LASHES – “WHAT’S A GIRL TO DO”

You just gotta peep this video. The eeriness of this video is overshadowed by its uniqueness. It’s so simple, yet thought provoking, like, “who thought of this?” Word on the street is that she based the biking concept off the biking kids in E.T. This is off Bat For Lashes’ 2007 album Fur & Gold. New album Two Suns drops 6.04.09. This video is too dope.

BLONDIE – “RAPTURE”

Blondie was hella underground until they dropped their 1978 album. Noteworthy, because they included various elements of dancehall, reggae, and disco to form their sound. Debbie Harry was the main chick and she was doin it. “Rapture” is off of the group’s 1980 album. Rapture is notable for being one of the first songs to incorporate elements of rap, thus relating the then underground genre to a wider audience.

KID CUDI – “DAY N NITE” (OFFICIAL VIDEO)

Almost the best video out. Best video of the week for sure. Cudi just came with something original, which is so appreciated. The regular mold of hip hop videos is so played that to conform is to admit that your shit isn’t worth the time to create meaninful and poignant works. Song is slightweight old but Cudi is doin it. Thank god he has the co-sign from Ye to have his visuals on par. Seems like they used the same animation as Ye did in the Heartless vid. Don’t even know if there is a “concept” for the video but there is an entertaining perspective taken on each character. The best thing Cudi’s got goin for him is that he’s different. A breathe of fresh air in a really stale game. Plus the Kanye co-sign and Cudi is winning. The best artists keep you wondering what they’ll do next.

DRAKE – SO FAR GONE MIXTAPE

Before I start. I admit I was sleeping on Drake. For maybe 3 days. The first Drake track I heard was “I Want This Forever.” An above average track, but nothing spectacular.. And then Ransom came out. “You aint heard of me then you should go and get a blues clue/oops I meant a red clue/Wayne’s here su-woo/bet he felt that like the end of a pool cue” That line put Drake into my consciousness. From there, “Brand New,” “Man of the Year,” and “Uptown” separated him from everyone else.

KANYE WEST – “HEARTLESS”

One of the few music videos out that has true replay value Hype Williams kills it with the Jetson graphics. Top 3 Kanye videos?
