Last week, I had the privilege of being introduced to one of the most original young groups I’ve seen in a while. From the unusual gear and the animated stage presence to the eclectic selection of songs, Tha Boogie made their impression felt, even if the audience wasn’t familiar yet. Hailing from Rancho Cucamonga, the trio is lucky enough to be under the wing of the legendary Raphael Saadiq, having recorded their debut EP, Love Tha Boogie Vol. 1 (Steal This Shit!) in his Blakeslee Recording studio. Says Saadiq of the group, “they encompass the most fresh and innovative sound, unlike any other music out there”. Slap this one and you’ll get an idea of what he’s talking about.
