JEROME KERSEY SALUTES THE ADMIRAL

1990. Western Conference Semi-Finals. Spurs & Trailblazers going at it. With Clyde and the Admiral leading the way, the two teams took the series to the final game, culminating in a win for the Spurs as they advanced to the conference finals. For Portland, this might’ve been their crowning moment of the playoffs. Jerome Kersey doing work.

BET YOU CAN’T DO THIS…

All I wanna do is find some trees, get a little on, cop a bike and go fuck with Ben in SF. Ride bikes, explore the city, meet people and have fun. It’d be so simple. Here’s another one from the Macaframa crew. The dopest bike crew I’ve seen. Shooting God, holler at me with a rebuttal if there is one. While the fixed gear movement is a hotly debated topic I must admit I am truly a fan. Props to the Macaframa team though. They’ve turned riding bikes into an art form, mixing classic tunes with iconic cinematography to create these shorts. Impressive to say the least. Bikes > Cars in the 2010.

ANNIE LEIBOVITZ SHOOTS TIGER WOODS

It’s interesting. It appears to me as if our perception of reality is becoming shattered more and more each day. This image is so poignant to me because it contrasts so greatly from this. But, they’re of the same person. Yet portraying such different realities. Or “realities” perhaps. In a way our world is crumbling before our eyes. As time goes on I think we will be astonished by what we have believed to be true. With Tiger, I think we can find a good in it. Although infidelity is not championed on the Bowties, being human is. I think when it comes down to it, humans fuck up a lot. But we want to make it seem like we’re always doin hella good. I can’t remember someone floppin themselves as hard as Tiger has in recent memory. But hopefully now we can appreciate our own wins and losses.

ISIAH THOMAS ON ALLEY OOPS

The audacity! A bounce pass alley oop in an NBA game? It’s funny. When it comes to sports, often times you can do whatever the fuck, if you end up scoring. In football you can scramble all over the field, run behind the line of scrimmage, and throw five laterals, but if you end up scoring you’re good. I guess it’s the same for hoops, come down on the fast break, stop and throw a bounce pass oop over two defenders heads to your teammate? Indeed. I just wonder if Isiah was planning it, or if he came with that one off top. Impressive nonetheless.

MEET RODNEY MULLEN

Meet Rodney Mullen. Known to many as one of the most influential figures to ever grace the sport of skateboarding. Having invented over 40 freestyle tricks himself, Rodney’s influence is still felt today. The video above is from an impromptu exhibition Rodney put on in Japan in ’84. Maybe it’s just me, but Rodney on a skateboard, seems like Jimi on guitar, or michael on the dance floor. I would suggest that the unifying characteristic of each lies in their mastery of their craft. I think they call that excellence.

GRANT HILL AT SUMMER CAMP (15 YEARS OLD)

Prodigies are an interesting phenomenon. I sometimes wonder what the difference is between a kid who’s really good at something, and a prodigy. I suppose a prodigy means you’re not only shitting on your peers, but you’re shitting on older cats too. With the luxury of hindsight, I think it’s safe to say that Grant Hill was a prodigy. At 15 years old and with three years left in high school this is a rare glimpse into the development of an NBA star. I can’t help but watch this and think, “Damn, this dude made it to the NBA and was killing,” (for a few years). Start pursuing your craft early. Who knows where it will take you.

NIKE + UNDFTD MVPUPPETS T-SHIRTS

Some folks may fuck with these purely for fits sake. Others may simply want it to remember. Releasing today at UNDFTD, the MVPuppets shirts will make their public debut to the tune of $32. While I’d be much happier in the 15-20 range, the shirts do capture one of the more successful marketing campaigns NIKE has executed in the recent past. But a quick request.. Can someone name the person who came up with this campaign? I’m pretty sure they’re settled right now. Coming back this season is a questionable move in my humble. But nonetheless entertaining. But if Kobe & Lebron don’t meet in the finals it will again be a bittersweet playoffs. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

CHRIS WEBBER ON SHOWMANSHIP

THE SAINT-CLOUD SPORTS CENTER

The recently completed sports and recreation center situated within the wealthy community of Saint-Cloud in France, is a prime example of the amazing things we can do with money and creativity. Designed by Paris-based KOZ Architects, and coexisting with several older educational buildings and a residential development, the 1,600 square-meter facility is unexpected and bold in it’s vibrant color schemes, and imaginative designs. Out of the box thinking at its best.

STEVE NASH ON GIVING

WHAT’S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?

Am I the only one that thinks this is a bit backwards. Actually I’m not, Danny and Melissa feel the same. And maybe you do too. As I observe many of the relationships around me and in public it seems as though they’re about everything but love. With the exception of a few. Mom & Pop extended. Thank you. But I guess what’s even more distressing is the message that’s being related from all of this. Does money have the power to dictate love? I suppose money can turn love into “love.”

THE CIRCLE BOARD BY WILLIAM STROBECK

Shot by William Strobeck as part of Mark Gonzale’s ‘Round N Round’ exhibition, skater Anthony Pappalardo created this circle board to take around New York City. Comprised of nine skateboards attached to each other, the film captures Anthony’s adventure as he travels through the streets of NY circle skating. Shot in black and white, the film manages to present the simplicity of the adventure, while also capturing the whimsical nature of such a pursuit. While the lack of cool tricks plagues the circle skating movement, you can’t deny the innovation. On some, “I’ve always wanted to try that.” hype. Props to Anthony, Will and Mark. Have a nice afternoon.

KOBE DOES GQ

I think I’ve done a good, actually a great job of keeping the Kobe posts settled thus far on the bowties. Shit, I could’ve just made a blog all about Kobe. But we decided to go a different route. With so much love and so much hate, it’s hard to negate that the mere name Kobe Bryant sparks debate nearly whenever it’s mentioned. While we’ve provided Kobe highlights before, today we’d like to present Kobe in a colder, icier light. GQ recently presented their list of the most doin it cats of the year. KB8 was one of them. Alongside Tom Brady, Zach Galifianakis, Barack Obama and Clint Eastwood? Yeah, a real head scratcher. Nonetheless GQ gave Kobe some love, and jooged him with some fly gear to for us to aspire to. As we’ve said before, “It’s all fun and games ’til someone gets fly…”

OLIVIER LEMIEUX: FLYER THAN THE REST OF ‘EM

This looks hella fun. It also looks ridiculously difficult though. Like how would you even practice this before you were good at it? Olivier Lemieux works with Cirque du Soleil, presumably doing more of the kind of acrobatic shit he’s seen doing here. I’d pick the cleanest trick, but I feel like it would be almost arbitrary. 2:03 maybe?
