MEET REGGIE

Success is pretty dope. It’s like you work and work and work and work, for what? For goals, I suppose. But more so it’s about the journey. I think our personal pursuits are in a lot of ways like climbing a mountain. Moments like Reggie’s here, are like the times when you’re climbing a mountain and stumble upon a clearing and happen upon a view. You get a chance to take a deep breath, and see how far you’ve come. They’ll be special moments along the way that’ll make it all worth it. But you’ve gotta climb the mountain to see the pretty views.

INTRODUCING MERON

Wine & Bowties + Nike

Recently the lovely Meron Medhanie took time out to model our latest collaborative piece with Nike. While at Dodger Stadium we had the opportunity to design our own hoodie, so we thought it only appropriate to showcase it here for you. Shot by Tiago Sperotto we visited Abbot Kinney to capture Meron in the perfect setting. Below are some looks for your viewing pleasure. I think we might be on to something.

CLARKS WEAVER FALL/WINTER 2010

Photobucket

It’s kinda funny. Lan and Bob introduced me to the settled movement back in ’08 and since then it’s been my goal to get to that place in every occassion. Whether it be amongst good company, or in some settled gear, the goal is to be settled in every aspect of life. In that same vein, these new Clarks are well, you know… The moccasins the 2010, and the suede is oh so nice. Available here.

THE 100 SERIES WRISTWATCH BY UNIFORM WARES

Photobucket

Yeezy admitted the other day his first watch was a fossil, not surprisingly, so was mine. Ben was the first one to cop a a fossil back in high school, and everyone followed suit. I don’t know about you, but since then my wrists have stayed naked, as my cell phones have been my primary time keeper. Nonetheless, it’s about that time to invest in some wristwear. Which brings us to this fine dandy of a watch from Uniform Wares. Available exclusively at their webstore, the watch references the wall clocks from British Industry. Put one on your wrist, and compliments will ensue.

SCOTT STERNBERG: THE CONDUCTOR OF THE BAND

Scott Sternberg is just one of those dudes. One of those ‘fly under the radar cats’, that everyone is talking to at a party, but doesn’t look like anyone special. One of those, “Oh that’s who that is?” cats. Starting Band of Outsiders in 2003, Sternberg has managed to create a classic American clothing brand, while remaining whimsical and deliberate at the same time. Maintaining an affinity towards preppy style since childhood, Sternberg references his past, along with inspiration from the 60′s and 70′s to create his pieces. There’s a sophistication to Sternberg’s work, that’s related through the design of the clothes and the places that house his pieces. Recently Hypebeast spent the day with Scott, to learn a bit more about the man behind the brand.

THE ORIGINAL HIPSTER

The Original Hipster

A lot of times, I’m tempted to read into other people’s artwork, and try to pull out the meaning attached to it by the artist. To a certain degree, I guess that’s what you’re supposed to be doing, but I think there’s something to be said for those pieces that leave it open-ended. “Our lovely model, Chris, has lived on Mercer Street for a few decades by choice,” says artist Julia Chesky, “I’m calling this series The Original Hipster because on most days he doesn’t even look like he’s truly homeless.”

I guess you can read it in a few different ways. On one hand, there’s a tongue-in-cheek, ironic element to the whole thing, as Chesky seems to be poking fun at the “hipster” cliches we know so well. But on the other hand, it’s also just a dope series of portraits about a homeless dude and his style. On the down side, there’s a sense in which it almost trivializes his situation. Either way, it got me thinking. What do you think?

DANIEL EDMUND: AN INTRODUCTION TO THE MODERN GENTLEMAN

Daniel Edmund The Modern Gentleman

Written By Daniel Edmund

In the twenty-ten, the man seems to still be dusting himself off from a hard fall from grace in today’s society. As times change, the roles and expectations of men seem to be leading many into a confusing conundrum of etiquette, perception and presentation. A woman’s counterpart is considered a man by some form of custom, but being a gentleman requires a distinct decision to raise the standard for yourself and those around you. Yes, it’s true we all fall short of being the person we want to be sometimes, but I’ve learned that that’s all apart of becoming that very person. So as this renaissance continues let us remind you of a few basics.

TWINS FOR PEACE PLIMSOLL FOOTWEAR

Twins For Peace

I’m not saying sneakers aren’t cool anymore, but in hindsight, their functionality off the hoop court is a bit limited. I know I’m not the only one who’s begun to make the transition from sneakers into casual footwear. At the end of the day, I’d rather be rocking the same kicks with 10 fits than 1 kick with 1 fit. It also save cents, so it makes sense.

Riding the wave of the casual footwear renaissance, Twins For Peace has recently released their Summer collection. Featuring bold colors with simple lining, I could easily see these on Twill’s feet come August. Even better, for each pair sold, Twins will donate a pair of shoes to a child in need. Now that’s winning. Available here.

THE STUSSY + GREENSLEEVES COLLECTION

Stussy + Greensleeves

As far as graphic tees go, it seems like the game is a little oversaturated. I guess you can’t really blame Karmaloop for capitalizing, or even the individual brands for doing their thing. But at this point, you need to be doing something special with them to catch my attention. Fortunately, Stussy came correct with this one, borrowing their inspiration from legendary reggae label Greensleeves, the former home of Barrington Levy, Yellowman and Gregory Isaacs, among others. In conjunction with the release, Stussy & Greensleeves also dropped The First 100 Covers, showcasing some of the best album art from late ’70s and early ’80s reggae. If you’re passionate about reggae like Nick is, you might just need to get these in your life. Check below for the whole collection.

“HE WEARS IT” BY JOHN WOO

John Woo Star Wars

Step 1. Choose an epic saga (Star Wars). Step 2. Pick out characters from the films. Step 3. Dress them in today’s finest menswear. Step 4. Sit back and enjoy the love. I don’t know about you, but I wouldn’t think to put Darth Vader and Band of Outsiders in the same sentence, let alone the same picture. Nonetheless, illustrator John Woo has done just that. Creating a hand sketched look book from some of today’s most prominent menswear designers, Woo’s created a unique snapshot of the times, uniting the past and present in style. Who new Jar jar could be this icy…

COULD YOU WEAR 6 ARTICLES OF CLOTHING FOR A MONTH?

“Wear only black so you can stop worrying about your clothes and get back to worrying about making awesome shit,” tweeted blogger Heidi Hackemer a few weeks ago. Inspired by a conversation sparked by this offhand comment, Heidi and her friend started the Six Items or Less Project, billed as a “global experiment in rationalizing consumerism”. With participants worldwide, their experiment entails just one stipulation: choose six, and only six items of clothing to rock for the next month.

For most us, I’d say this sounds like a challenge and a half. But why exactly? It’s no secret that consumerism tends to make us overthink the simple act of putting on clothes, turning a basic necessity into a way of shaping our identity, and giving us one more thing to trip off for no real reason. But what if we took a break from buying into that mentality? Yeah, we all like to stunt sometimes, but do we really need to? Either way, props to the folks at Six Items or Less for asking the question. Find out more below, or sign up here.
