PAPER SCULPTURES: THE “ABROAD UNDERSTANDING” EXHIBITION

Before we get started today just a quick thank you. I appreciate the support more than you’ll ever know. It’s been a pleasure sharing my thoughts and ideas with you. Thanks for coming along on this journey.

Featured to the right are a collection of paper sculptures by Armenian artist Karen Sargsyan. Originally featured at the Hudson Valley Center for Contemporary Art, Karen’s appropriately titled exhibition, “Abroad Understanding,” allows viewers to interpret each piece with little to no help from Karen himself. With no brochure or exhibit catalog, it seems as though Karen seeks to force his audience to draw conclusions about the meaning of each piece on their own. All the while including various subtleties to accent each piece. I just wonder how many paper cuts he got.
